Providence Family Practice

In March of 2000 UNIT was the successful bidder on the 23,000 SF Providence Family Practice Center, which serves as the central facility for the only Graduate Medical Education Program in the State of Alaska.

This facility was opened in January of 2001 and is an architecturally stunning building designed specifically for the training of Family Practice Physicians.  Its design includes ample space for 17 residency offices and 35 precepting, procedure and exam rooms.  The facility includes onsite x-ray, laboratory and pharmacy departments. The conference room can host video conferences, power-point presentations and all staff meetings. The library has a large selection of texts, videos, CDs, handbooks and other resources.  There are computers located throughout the building for point of care Internet searches and electronic databases.

During construction several changes to the type of equipment that were being installed in the building required the construction schedule to be revised to allow these changes. Despite these challenges the facility opened on time and in accordance with the original plan.
